چکیده
This paper revisits the original natural resource curse study conducted by Sachs and Warner to investigate relationship between dependence per capita growth in recent data consisting of 68 developing countries that includes 14 Middle East & North Africa (MENA) 6 Gulf Cooperative Council (GCC) 1994–2014. Using a cross-country modeling we find robust evidence negative association dependence. affect is especially prominent oil-rich MENA countries. The presence presents challenges policymakers who have been taking measures diversify their income-base.

The Natural Resource Curse: A Survey
It is striking how often countries with oil or other natural resource wealth have failed to grow more rapidly than those without. This is the phenomenon known as the Natural Resource Curse. The principle is not confined to individual anecdotes or case studies, but has been borne out in econometric tests of the determinants of economic performance across a comprehensive sample of countries. The ...
متن کاملNatural Resources, Institutions Quality, and Economic Growth; A Cross-Country Analysis
Abstract[1] Natural resources as a source of wealth can increase prosperity or impede economic growth. Empirical studies with different specifications and data are also mixed on whether natural resources are curse or blessing. In fact, the variety of model specifications, measurements, and samples in the empirical literature makes it difficult to generalize the results. In this study, a growth...
متن کاملRevisiting Cross-Country Correlation Anomalies
A productivity shock leads to a large international transfer of capital in the typical two-country real business cycle model. Most recent models that attempt to reduce or remove this transfer produce unrealistically low investment volatility. We show that adding learning-by-doing to the technological environment of a relatively standard international business cycle model can ameliorate this pro...
متن کاملGrowth and Inflation: A Cross-Country Study
This paper examines the effect of inflation on real growth in a Solow growth model using data from a cross section of countries over a 30-year period. The advantage of using a theoretical model is that it reduces the risk that the results will reflect data-mining. The results suggest that the 5 percentage point reduction in inflation from the 1970s to the 1980s would increase the growth rate of...
متن کاملNatural resource dependence, human capital accumulation, and economic growth: A combined explanation for the resource curse and the resource blessing
In existing studies, no consensus has been reached on the relationship between natural resource dependence and human capital accumulation. To narrow the divergence, this paper carries out a normative research to explain the co-existence of the phenomena of the resource curse and the resource blessing based on an organic combination of conceptual and mathematical models. It first establishes a c...
